Help survivors to heal by funding a therapeutic creative writing session of Write to Life.
Write to Life is the longest running refugee writers’ group in the UK, and the only one specifically for survivors of torture. It has grown from a few people writing for each other to a thriving group of writers and performers, who write for publication and travel all over the country performing both live and on film.
Write to Life meets for group workshops at Freedom from Torture, and each member is also offered private one-to-one mentoring. The mentors are all professional writers, who volunteer their time. Although the group’s primary function is creative, writing and performance are increasingly recognised as a powerful and therapeutic form of survivor activism for group members.
Crafting these stories into the form of music, poetry or fiction not only turns ugliness into beauty, but enables the group’s messages to penetrate the indifference or hostility of public attitudes, and reach audiences beyond our supporters.
PLEASE NOTE: All funds will support Write to Life sessions for survivors of torture at Freedom from Torture. Any excess funds will be spent where most needed.
